About PANTOhealth · A clinic for pantographs and overhead lines

We bridge the gap between data and maintenance action

We help rail operators turn data from their pantographs and overhead lines into clear maintenance decisions, so they can fix small problems early and keep their networks running reliably.

Who we are

A specialist clinic for pantographs and overhead lines

We are a team of engineers and data scientists, focused on one thing: the health of pantographs and overhead lines. Like a good clinic, we care for that single area from every angle.

We monitor their condition with our own IIoT hardware. We simulate faults before they appear, using software we built in house. Then we analyse both the real and the simulated data with our AI models. Bringing this range of services together around one niche is why we call ourselves a clinic, so we can spot issues early and help operators act before small faults become failures.

Our Mission

Providing AI-driven predictive maintenance, real-time monitoring, and data analytics for railway infrastructure.

Our Vision

To become the global standard in predictive railway maintenance.

Who we serve

Built for the people who keep railways running

Our tools cover the whole life of the overhead line, from first design to daily operation. These are the four groups we work with most.

Train Operators

We help operators know when a pantograph needs attention, so they can plan maintenance, avoid delays and keep trains in service.

Infrastructure Managers

We give a clear view of overhead line health across the network, so teams can catch wear early and plan repairs with confidence.

Train Manufacturers

We provide simulated data and let manufacturers run different scenarios before they start building.

Infrastructure Designers

We help designers test and improve overhead line designs with certified simulation, before anything is built in the field.

Our story

How PANTOhealth came to life

From a first conversation about pantograph maintenance to our first major contract, here are the moments that shaped our company.

2016

Where the idea started

While working on his PhD in pantograph and catenary simulation, our founder Farzad met the technical lead of a pantograph manufacturer. They talked about a real gap in the industry: operators had no clear way to know when a train needed pantograph maintenance. That conversation showed us how important this is for planning tram and train operations.

2018

Our first experiment

We ran a simple, low-cost test to see if we could monitor a pantograph in the field. It was rough, but it proved the idea could work.

March 2020

Our first support

We were awarded our first public grant, the "Berliner Startup-Stipendium," organized by the Imagine2030 Mobility Accelerator. They helped us keep going through the early days of the pandemic, before any investment came in.

September 2020

PANTOhealth is founded

We officially registered the company during the COVID pandemic.

September 2020

Our first prototype

We built our first vibration-based monitoring system, including a sensor wiper we made ourselves.

November 2020

Our first pilot, in Belgium

We installed our system on a catenary maintenance vehicle in Belgium. It was our first experience working through the rail industry's approval process, an important step toward becoming a qualified technical solution provider.

October 2021

ERCI Innovation Award

We won the ERCI Innovation Award 2021, one of our first pieces of industry recognition.

November 2021

Our first office

We moved into our first dedicated office in Berlin.

March 2022

Our first investor

At a railway exhibition in Poland, an experienced mentor became our first investor and backed us with a private loan.

July 2022

ProFIT-DATAI

ProFIT-DATAI was awarded to us, a project co-financed by the European Union and managed by Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB). It focuses on data integration and AI-based analysis for the predictive maintenance of pantograph and overhead line systems. The project ran for about three years, from 2022 to 2025.

August 2022

Berlinpreis für Wirtschaft

We received the Berlinpreis für Wirtschaft in the Newcomer category.

September 2022

InnoTrans 2022

We showed our work at InnoTrans, one of the largest rail events in the world. The feedback was strong and encouraging.

February 2023

Building our business team

We launched our business development team. It marked a shift from a purely technical team to a more business-focused company.

September 2023

Closing the first investment round

We finalised our investment agreements. We brought on industry angel investors and venture capital from Freirum Venture and EIT Urban Mobility.

August 2024

Certifying our simulation designs

We started the process to officially certify three of our overhead line simulation designs, working with an accredited company in the rail sector.

September 2024

Expanding our market to light rail

We grew our market by adding light rail as a new sector. Our AI-based health monitoring platform now supports light rail networks as well as mainline railways.

March 2025

Our first major contract

We won the tender and signed our first major contract with Delhi Metro, one of the largest metro networks in the world. It proved that we can compete internationally on both price and technology.

February 2026

PantoTech, with EIT Urban Mobility

We started PantoTech, a project managed by TU Berlin and financially supported by EIT Urban Mobility. It focuses on safe and resilient mobility through intelligent monitoring of tram and metro catenary systems. The project runs across five cities, with four more taking part as observers.
